Neverwinter Nights 2 isn't without some technical issues, but the engaging, dynamic story and proven D & D framework make it an RPG that shouldn't be missed.
To say that the expectations are high for Neverwinter Nights 2 would be a massive understatement. Not only is it the sequel to one of the best role-playing games ever to bear the Dungeons & Dragons license, but it's also been developed by some of the creative talent behind such other revered role-playing games as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. The good news is that Neverwinter Nights 2 lives up to its pedigree by delivering a captivating story full of exciting twists and characters who you'll grow attached to out of fondness or, perhaps even better, complete loathing. It's not without a few frustrating technical shortcomings, but overall Neverwinter Nights 2 is a great role-playing adventure that just about anyone can enjoy.
The good
Compelling story will keep you hooked for the entire 50-plus hours it takes to finish the single-player campaign

This is just about the most authentic representation of Dungeons & Dragons you'll find in any game
Excellent music and mostly well-done voice acting
The interactive dialogue and influence system make for dynamic and entertaining character interactions.

Neverwinter Nights 2 E3 View Following its well received appearance at the show last week, some observations and thoughts on Obsidian's sequel
May 16, 2006 - Expected within the coming months, Neverwinter Nights 2 is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to one of the landmark releases of the past several years. This time, the development duties are being handled by a talented, experienced Obsidian Entertainment team whose combined past RPG credits are formidable indeed, including Fallout 2, the Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale and more.
Commendations
The developers have been working hard to build on the distinctive strengths of the first game, principally by building new editing tools with a similar balance between power and ease of use. Some other noteworthy elements also rate to be improved. One is the single-player campaign, where studio co-founder Chris Avellone's previously demonstrated writing skills seem likely to shine once again in a sweeping tale involving a lost relic from a war fought years before and, of course, a dire threat to the Forgotten Realms world. Other changes worth mentioning are that players will have greater control over the party member NPCs, and the implementation of new technologies such as an up to date graphics engine and improved pathfinding code.
